Reviews about Mizuno Wave Rider 14

Mizuno Wave Rider 14:

One of Mizuno-s guiding philosophies is -Kaizen-, which means constant improvement. We are continuously listening to our customers and their likes and dislikes to evolve our products.

Everything we do to products is done with runners involved every step of the way. Since launching these shoes we have received, praise, awards and some criticism for the changes made from the predecessor models. As usual there are as many opinions as there are runners, all
of which are valid. We thought it might help if we explained some of the differences we have made to the shoes and why.

Both these shoe are renowned for their dynamic ride and comparatively light weight and we have focused on keeping things that way, while improving the fit, durability and comfortable ride of the shoes.

Both of the Waves, the technology which controls much of the feel of the shoe from a ride, cushioning and stability aspect, are also identical to the predecessor models.

The midsole heights on both shoes are still 12mm in the forefoot and 24mm in the heel, as they always have been.

The main differences are slight changes to the last and the upgrade of the midsole material to AP+.

Let-s deal with the changes to the last first:

The first difference is a slightly snugger heel fit to prevent heel slippage and a small increase in the height of the eye row. The result of this is a much more secure fit in the heel.

Runners who wear orthotics will also notice the benefits of this change. The toe box has a reduced volume but the width across the shoe is the same. This was in response to complaints that our toe boxes were baggy. Making this change has resulted in less wrinkling and a more precise and secure fit.

The toe spring has been increased. This gives a smoother faster transition in the toe off phase with a more natural dynamic feel.
And now to the changes in the midsole polymer:

The midsole polymer has been changed to AP+. This has put a new spring into the ride of these shoes. AP+ has a high rebound and much greater durability. In simple terms better comfort and cushioning that lasts for longer. The wrap of the midsole in the heel on both shoes has been increased slightly.

This gives a slightly heavier look, but no gain in weight. The benefit of this is better support for the heel counter
which gives greater stability in that area.

All of these changes were made to make the shoes more attractive to more runners and we believe they will be. We do realise that for some any change is a change too far and they may not like what we have done.

We know from our own testing that many runners loved these shoes and those who were doubtful at first came to like these shoes more than ever.

We therefore really recommend that runners try the new shoes and if they are not fully satisfied, Mizuno will stand by our products, loyal retailers and customers as we have always done.

- Incredibly slick transition and ride, now with improved fit and cushioning
