How to Use Panniers

Panniers are the most appropriate options for storage that most bike tourers use. These are handy bags that offer ample space for storing essential items and can be easily clipped onto the sides of the front or rear racks.
You can also remove the panniers without any trouble and carry them when reaching the destination. Most bike panniers are designed to be water repellent so all your gear remains protected from being wet during a rainy day.

How to Use Panniers?

The basic rule is to carry 60% of your gear in the front pannier and 40% in the back panniers. It is important because you need to evenly distribute the weight to have a comfortable ride. For tours lasting just a few days, two panniers are enough to keep clothing, gear, and food. Brooks England, Thule, XLC, Topeak, and Zefal offer a wide range of foldable and waterproof panniers.

How to Use Front Panniers?

Front panniers are similar in design to the rear panniers. They are regarded as the secondary storage option when you are heading on a long trip and require more supplies to carry. Put the food, snacks, water, first aid kit, repairing tools, and rain gear in your bike’s front pannier to have quick access.

How to Use Rear Panniers?

Set your sleeping bag and tent inside the back pannier. Make sure that you use a rear pannier for storing gear that is not frequently required. Place the heavy items lower to maintain the stability of the ride while keeping the bike’s center of gravity in control.
