How to Remove Bike Cassette

Once you have ridden around 1000 miles, it is the right time to take a closer look at your bike’s cassette. The wear and tear will greatly depend on the routes where you have to ride mountains, dirt trails, or roads and the condition of your chain. If the teeth look more like shark fins than rounded humps, it is time to remove the mountain bike cassette.
Sometimes you only require replacing individual cogs rather than the whole cassette and bike parts. However, not all cassettes have replacement parts so it is better to change the whole part. Shimano, Sram, Mavic and MSC offer a wide range of cassette bike parts. Here we will learn how to remove bike cassette, have a look below;

Check Your Bike’s Hub Type

To check your bike’s hub type, you need to remove the rear wheel of the bike and take a closer look at the smallest cog on the cassette. If the lockring sits outside the smallest cog, it means that you have a cassette freehub.
Once you have removed the rear wheel of your bike, take off the quick release skewer from the wheel. Put the cassette lockring remover into the cassette and turn around till it seats. The cassette will seat in one position only. Then, remove the lock ring and slide off the bike cassette.
