compatibility with wider tires

Is it fit also for wider tire 35-40 mm? (with classic road quick release axle and rim brake ) or is there space just for standard road tire 23-28mm?

Yes, it is suitable. In it I can also transport the MTB wheel, both for disc and rim brakes.

I also use this carrier for the front wheels of my cyclocross bikes with 33 mm wide tires. There is also at least 20 mm of space to the side of the holders and the carrier itself, so that even 40 mm wide tires should fit without any problems.

Yes, it is perfect for a 700 road wheel with quick release. Not suitable for wheels with current thru-axles.

Yes, it fits like that, i.e. without an adapter, only for wheels with a classic quick release system. For wheels with a thru-axle system you have to build your own adapter. You can also transport wheels smaller than 700 (28 inches) with it.
