- The Running Dynamics Pod easily clips onto your waistband to measure the running dynamics you need to beat yesterday. It gives you the option to run without a heart rate monitor chest strap. Once paired with your compatible smartwatch1, just clip it to the back and center of your waistband and start your run.
Review Your Form:
- View and analyze important running metrics such as your cadence, stride length, ground contact time and balance, vertical oscillation and vertical ratio. These biomechanical measurements can help you understand your running form so you can perform better on race day.
How It Works:
The Running Dynamics Pod has an accelerometer in the module that measures torso movement to calculate these 6 running metrics:
- Cadence is the number of steps per minute. It displays the total steps (right and left combined).
- Ground contact time balance displays the left/right balance of your ground contact time while running. It displays a percentage. For example, 53.2 with an arrow pointing left or right.
- Stride length is the length of your stride from 1 footfall to the next. It is measured in meters.
- Vertical oscillation is your bounce while running. It displays the vertical motion of your torso, measured in centimeters for each step.
- Vertical ratio is the ratio of vertical oscillation to stride length. It displays a percentage. A lower number typically indicates better running form.
- Ground contact time is the amount of time in each step that you spend on the ground while running. It is measured in milliseconds.

Simple to wear and unobtrusive, provides all the running metrics I required. I paired this with Garmin Forerunner 245 which has built in HR monitor (which shows negligible difference in HR monitoring compared to my Garmin Edge 1000 + HR strap) which I find is a preferable set up compared to running with a HR strap. Only negative is that I might forget to remove the pod and it goes through the washing machine. Especially useful here is the alert I got on my FR245 reminding me to remove the pod if I had finished my workout.

It is, but mostly it was built for 945 to get Running Power with a connect IQ app by Garmin. On 955, they have added built-in accelerometer, so you get Running Power built-in without this. Still you can use the sensor for advanced dynamic features such as Stride length, vertical ratio, contact time, etc. Hope this helps.

Hi, since I read from all sides that the article in question calibrates itself automatically with GPS but currently we cannot leave the house, is it possible to perform a calibration on the carpet to obtain a precise speed indoors? I have a Forerunner with HRM belt but it is not precise since he uses the clock oscillometer on the carpet. The old foot pods gave the possibility to manually calibrate them without GPS.

Hi, The race dynamics sensor is compatible with the Marq watch, but unfortunately it is not compatible with zwift. The race dynamics sensor does not provide speed or pace information. Only advanced running dynamics such as power, cadence, ground contact time, etc. On the other hand, the Foot Pod is compatible with the Garmin Marq and can be used with zwift but it only track speed. Hi, Footpod provides a more accurate instantaneous rhythm and is more useful when running indoors. Keep in mind that the RD module does not give rhythm, but provides running dynamics, such as contact time with the ground or vertical oscillation. Regards
