At the heart of GORE-TEX fabric is an extremely thin membrane thats durably waterproof, windproof, and breathable. It has over 9 billion pores per square inch.
What Durably Waterproof Means:
We believe waterproof garments shouldn’t leak - period. Many outdoor brands claim their products are waterproof but can’t always keep that promise over time in real-life conditions. We keep that promise. GORE-TEX fabrics provide truly durable waterproofness, keeping water out through prolonged use in harsh conditions and demanding applications.
Although textiles like microfibers, closely woven fabrics, and many fleece materials are often considered windproof, even light winds can penetrate most of these fabrics, making you feel chilled and uncomfortable. In technical terms, a fabric can only be considered truly windproof if its air permeability is 1.0 cfm (volume of air that passes through one cubic foot of fabric in one minute) or less. All GORE-TEX® products meet or exceed this standard.
“Breathability” is one of the outdoor industry’s most misunderstood terms. It is not, as many believe, about a fabric’s ability to let air move through it, rather it refers to how well it lets your sweat escape in the form of moisture vapor. Our standards require that during heavy exertion our fabrics must breathe well enough to allow sweat to evaporate easily.

The Best Waterproof Socks, No Question...
Bob Phillips - 15/01/2018
i am buying these socks, again, for the umpteenth time. i have used them for backpacking for the last 20-25 years. they have remained basically the same design for all this time and, fortunately, they fit my feet pretty well. i have never had wet feet in a pair of them except when they have, finally, given up the ghost, usually after a long winter of bashing through the hills of nw scotland. cheaper than replacing your so-called w/p boots, and they work equally well with w/p liner-less - cheaper anyway - trail shoes. you can even test for w/p-ness by filling them with water from time to time and squeeze to find holes. then make sure they're fully dry, and force a little seem-sealant into the holed area, both sides if you like! like all outdoor gear, they may not work for everybody, especially if you do suffer from sweaty feet, big-time. as long as you don't go in deeper than the elastic cuff, you will remain dry. i have even gone in over the top for a brief enforced dunking and only had a little water seep in, though any longer than this and, well, water is water... on a forum somewhere, a runner described using them without inner/main socks too! fool. wear your normal walking socks (def. wool, too stinky otherwise) or whatever you use for cycling, they work for everything. in the tent at day's end, i have often revealed my dry socked feet to my walking companion who's socks are soaked, having ,removed their expensive membrane-lined boots. hmm. try a pair, be logical about how you use them, it's an inexpensive experiment at worst, and maybe a total revelation!
Rain and some cold

Product avoids having wet feet. Ideal for rainy days. The only drawback is that the form does not fit the foot being easily wrinkles on the tips and heel. With long runs can cause chafing. Perhaps a more anatomical cut or better pattern would be ideal. Used with inner sock for the same reason.
