These are my first pedals on the SPD-SL system, so I can't compare them to other products of this type. My SPD boots were starting to show signs of wear and I decided to switch to SPD-SL instead of waiting for them to fail. I still have SPD pedals on my city bike, SPD-SL pedals on my road bike. The difference is very noticeable. It's hard to say which contributes more, the stiffer boots or the type of pedals, but when accelerating and pedaling standing up, it feels like the effort loss for SPD-SL pedals is much lower. All the energy from the legs goes into the bike without loss. When pedaling while standing uphill, it feels like climbing stairs: no backlash, hesitation, nothing.Walking SPD-SL shoes is difficult, of course, so I won’t change pedals on a city bike yet), but on a road bike - only SPD-SL!
