As one of the contact points, the shifters are an important link between the driver and the bike. Compared to the M8000 Shifter, the operating forces could be reduced by 35% thanks to a changed gear ratio in combination with a lower cage voltage at the rear derailleur. The proven Rapidfire Plus switching logic with double-sided switchable lever (2-way release) has been adopted from the previous version. However, the M8100 shifter shifts faster with its revised interior through Instant Release. The shift cable is released immediately upon actuation of the lever, allowing the pilot to respond even faster to changing track conditions.

Excellent shifter. I purchased this along with a matching XT derailleur to replace my Sram GX setup where the clutch failed after 3.5yrs….not bad. My decision to purchase the XT setup was based on the ability to adjust/repair clutch if need be. I really like that with the Shimano shifter you have the ability to make multiple downshifts into higher gears with one long single press of the paddle where with Sram each gear requires one press of paddle.

What to say about a Shimano XT product. Reliable, fast, safe ... To put a but (which does not take away the 5 stars ...) ... perhaps more versatility in adjustment and placement (the clamp cannot be moved laterally, nor the inclination, only rotate on the handlebar). Score: 9.5
