Is it suitable for different types of chain and speeds? Does it measure the wear of any type of chain and speeds or do you also need to know the parameters of the chain when it is new?

This knc checker is great..for Simano..kmc and sram!!.BUT it will not work on any Campagnolo chain . Period!!

This should work on most chains without needing to know any parameters, since there is a standard distance between links on all chains. To use this device, one compresses the two ends (there is spring resistance) while lowering the two measuring tips into the chain. It will be a tight fit on a new chain. You then release the two ends, allowing the device to decompress. The readout displays how much it decompresses, which equals chain "stretch." A new chain should read Zero.
