Hi I was wondering how long this wheel would last for (km) wise. Also do they work with tubes.
Answer of Robert
No idea how long they are going to last, but it´s a well built wheel. Have been riding mine on rocky terrain on a hardtail and have not had any problems. And I have tubes in mine.
Answer of Billy
This is a fairly high quality wheel from mavic. I have mavic rims that are twenty years old and still work great! It depends on how much you weigh and what you do with them. Yes they work with tubes
Answer of Ian
First of all you can run this with tubes or run it tubeless. Hard to say how long it will last depending on your riding style/discipline/frequency of braking. I am a heavy rider (100kg) and I use this on my commute MTB. It has done over 5 thousand kms so far and has only needed a small tune on the spokes. I also recently serviced the free hub body and non drive side bearing and it runs perfectly. I run mine tubeless with a Maxxis tyre and the setup works very well.
OLD of the rear hub spacing

Hello.. I was wondering what the hub spacing on the rear wheel is for this. I am looking for 130mm. Thank you
Answer of Billy
These are 135mm, fairly standard for a QR mountain bike wheel
Answer of Ian
This is a traditional 9 speed MTB frame/hub spacing with 135mm. Hope this helps, regards .*Ian*
Cassete

Hi I was wondering if this wheel is compatible with an 8 speed cassete also want know if they are double wall.
Answer of Ian
The rim is double walled with the spoke nipples recessed. I added rim tape and set it up tubeless and it works great. I am 99.9% sure that you can use an 8 speed cassette (Shimano). Most 8 & 9 speed cassettes are the same thickness so should be no problem. I use 9 speed. It comes with a spacer which must be installed on the free hub first in order for the 9 speed to be used so it will be the same for the 8 speed. I think if you use 10 speed then the spacer is not installed. Hope this helps. Regards *Ian*
Can the hub be swapped to XD freehub for SRAM cassettes?
15/03/2024
Andrew
Can the hub be swapped to XD freehub for SRAM cassettes? I need a replacement wheelset but currently running SRAM GX 12 speed groupset which uses the XD freehub.
Answer of Billy
I am fairly certain you cannot
Answer of Ian
No definitely not. This older Mavic system uses a two pawls system which is part of the hub and is not removable.

Are they 26 inches? Brakes v brake??
Answer of Billy
Yes they are 26” wheels, any rim brake will work V-brakes included
Answer of Ian
Yes this is a standard old style 26 inch wheel and works very well with V-brakes.
Answer of Ernest
Yes, it is 26´ and for rim brakes (v-btake, cantilever or horseshoe).
Answer of Michael
Hi! Yes - these are 26 inch size rims that are suitable for v-brakes - I know because I just installed them just fine on my 26” size, rim v-brake configuration all terrain bike. Super light too - these are easily 1/2 the weight of older rims, genuinely no exaggeration.
Answer of Iain
Yes and Yes, as written in the description and previous Technical questions. (V-brakes are a type of rim brake!)
cassette compatibility

Hello, I can no longer find replacement wheels for old giant mcm v-brake carbon mountain bikes, what you are offering would suit me but is the freewheel cassette compatible with 9 speeds? THANKS.
Answer of Robert
The hub is a cassette, NOT a freewheel. Will not work with a thread on freewheel. Have mine set up with a SRAM 9 speed mtb cassette and it works perfectly.
Answer of Billy
Yes these should work as 9/10/11 speed mountain bike cassettes are the same cassette width
Answer of Ian
Hi, I bought this wheel recently for my ‘retro’ mountain bike 27 speed (3x9). It works perfectly with a 9 speed Shimano cassette. The wheel will come with a small metal spacer for the free hub body…this must be placed on first before the 9 speed cassette and it will work 100%
Answer of David
Hello. I used a set of these to refresh my ´95 Cannondale Killer V. I am using a 9 speed Shimano HG80 on there with no problem. Fantastic set of wheels IMHO, solid, straight and they look fantastic on the bike.
Answer of Ernest
Yes, it is compatible with a Shimano HG 9 or 10 speed cassette.
Answer of Harrie
Dear, I also have an ATB with Shimano 9 speed. I bought this rear wheel and it works fine. You can use a spacer behind the cassette if necessary. With VR. Greetings, Harry
Answer of Jun
yes. It is compatible with 9 speeds using the included spacer.

Re: Hg hub

Marlo
Hello, is the hg hub for 11 speed? Thank you.
Answer of Michael
Yes, it should work with 11 speed. I´m using mine with a 9-speed Shimano cassette. I had to add a spacer behind the cassette so 11 speed should not be an issue.

Are they 26” bike wheels?
Answer of John
Yes, they are. I replaced the original wheels on my vintage mountain bike with these. Perfect fit.
Answer of Kurt
Yes. I put them on an old MB to gravel conversion. Nice wheel and hub. Put a 42mm tire on them no problem.
